BIBBITY BOBBITY BOO!! or How to Raise A Ski Bum

Did you ever put your kids between your legs and enthusiastically sing "Bibbity Bobbity Boo" while you skied the bumpies?

Did you ever shoot your kids (or you daughter's ski group) with a bow and arrow made of ski poles?

Did you ever get lost in Echo Woods, time and time again, following your five year old through trees shorter than her?

Did you ever make sure that all your work was done by 3:00pm on every Friday in the winter so you could pick up your kids at school and drive four hours to Vermont?

Did you ever stay up until 2 in the morning - every weekend - tuning your daughter's skis for the next days race?

Did you ever spend two years collecting every ski drill and exercise ever created and put them together in a book just so you could be a better skier, coach and on-snow father?

Did you ever spend a weekend (including 8 hours of driving) with a bunch of giggling ninth grade girls because your daughter wanted a ski weekend with her friends?

Did you ever accidently take your three-year-old daughter to Killington Peak (because Stages I & II of the gondola were closed) and then ski her all the way down Great Eastern, missing her nap, so she had to pass out face first into her apres-ski oatmeal?

Did you ever design a house around a room big enough to hold your family's skis, gear and tuning equipment?

Did you ever drive an extra hour every weekend to pick your teenage daughter up from boarding school just so you could ski together?

Did you ever spend hours dancing on skis down Snowshed with your
little girls?

Did you ever knock everyone over in the family ski photograph - just because?

Did you ever adjust your work schedule & pretend your girls were sick every Sunday night powder storm so you could ski with your girls in four feet of snow on Monday?

Did you ever spend three nights a week doing drills at the local ski area because your daughter's coaches sucked and she wanted desperately to be a better skier?

Did you ever do a triple lobius with a left legged cross-over down UpperWildfire because your daughter yelled your name from the Skye Peak Quad and totally spooked you?

Did you ever drive to random tiny ski areas across New England just so your daughter could bring her F.I.S. points down?

Did you ever spend hour after hour at the ski shop, talking to customers, boot fitters and ski salesmen...just because you wanted someone with whom to talk skiing?

Did you ever wear an absolutely heinous neon yellow ski jacket or pink flamingo pointy knit ski hat because your daughter bought it for you?

Did you ever enter a synchonized skiing competition because you thought skiing was supposed to be beautiful?

Did you ever do O-S turns down Outer Limits all day long...because you wanted to?

Did you ever call your daughter in June to make sure she had put her summer wax on - and then talk her through it for the next hour?

Did you ever hike up Superstar after the lifts closed to go skiing with your daughter?

Did you ever dominate ever dinner time conversation with an analysis of ski technique - and I mean EVERY dinner time conversation?

Did you ever teach skiing because you loved it and not because you wanted the free season pass?

Did you ever get jealous of your daughter when she dropped out of graduate school so that she could become a ski instructor and therefore ski everyday?

Did you ever freeze your butt off and go winter camping just so your daughter could wake up in the woods for her 30th birthday?

Did you ever make a fool out of yourself on the ski hill to guarantee that your daughters would have a good time?

Did you ever teach your daughter to love skiing by loving skiing yourself?

My daddy did.

Happy Birthday to the man who made me the ski bum I am today!
Thanks for everything, Dad!

May You Find the Spirit of the Mountains Within You,
